At TechIDManager, we recommend against sharing admin accounts. However, we understand that in some cases, it may be necessary—such as granting access to outside vendors or providing temporary admin access to a machine. Many people resort to insecure methods like writing passwords on sticky notes, but there’s a more secure solution.
We recently introduced a one-time password sharing feature, allowing credentials to be securely shared. Any credential in TechIDManager can be shared by right-clicking it and selecting One-Time Share. A dialog box will appear, prompting you to enter the recipient’s name. When the recipient attempts to view the shared password, they must enter the same name to gain access.
Once you confirm the share, a unique URL is generated and automatically copied to your clipboard. The recipient must open this URL and enter their name to retrieve the credential. The URL is valid for a single use, and access is granted only if the name matches. This ensures that two pieces of information are required:
1. The unique URL containing a long, randomized string.
2. The exact name entered during setup.
All data is encrypted end-to-end, ensuring it cannot be read in transit.
Administrators can disable one-time password sharing from the Management Console if needed. Additionally, every share action is logged in the Activity Log Report, documenting both the initiation and recipient access.
